BEL AIR BOOK FESTIVAL UNA-MD Works to Promote Literacy Saturday, July 22, 2006 UNA-MD will continue its community outreach by having an information table at this excellent community event. The purpose of the Bel Air Book Festival is to celebrate reading by bringing together those resources that promote and support literacy in the community. UNA-MD views this as an opportunity to promote interest in the literary traditions of global cultures and by extension, to help raise awareness of issues confronting humanity around the world. The Bel Air Book Festival is a community event, free to the public, and is funded entirely through sponsorships, donations, and grants. All fund raised are used exclusively to defray the costs of the Festival. Featured events include presentations and book signings by numerous authors including Mary Jo Putney, Jack O'Neill, Margaret Meacham, Katie Moose, Stephen Parlato, Elaine Bunting, Jack Tanner, Becky Titelman, Jack Eddinger, Wendie Old, Bill Bates, and Karol Bloch. In additon, there will be appearances by The Book Guys Radio Show, the Chesapeake Storytellers Guild, and Kimmie Meissner, world skating champion. The program will close with a performance by the Bel Air Jazz Ensemble beginning at 4:30. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact us at info@unamd.org or our event coordinator, Guy Djoken, at gpdjoken@unescocenterforpeace.net. Update: Here is a photo of Roxanne, Guy, and Anne doing a great job of spreading the word about the UN.
